1996 – The Touch of Silk

Firmly entrenched in Australian theatre as one of the classics, Betty Roland’s play was written in 1928, about rural people of that era, caught up in a struggle to survive a crippling drought in the Mallee region of Victoria.

The Davidson family has more problems to contend with as well. Young Jim has returned from war-torn France with head injuries and a beautiful French bride. His widowed mother has the difficulty coming to terms with all these problems, and our story find this family ten years on.

Jim’s wife, Jeanne is the key figure in this drama. A bright, happy and adoring young wife is forced to make enormous adjustments in this harsh environment, and we wonder will her inner strength survive yet another tragedy.

Performed in October/November 1996 at Benalla Town Hall.
