Estuary House is an old pre-Tudor farmhouse situated below the town of Gravesend in the Thames marshes made famous by Dickens in his “Great Expectations”. It stands at a small height above the level pastures which stretch out to the massive stone walls boarding the river.
It belongs, in this year 1885, to a Miss Leonora Fiske. Miss Fiske, as you will realise when you see her, in an uncommon type. She is a retired lady of easy virtue. She has had good friends – one or two of whom pay her small quarterly allowances – and she has saved money. She has chosen to spend the last years of her life in rural retirement; and she occupies this lonely house with her friend and housekeeper-companion, Miss Ellen Creed. The living room, which you see before you, has been made by throwing two or three rooms together. A pleasant enough room in daylight, but perphaps a little eerie after dark……….
This show was performed in May 1987 at Benalla Town Hall.
